• Near East College Student Meryem Şensoy Tavukçuoğlu has ranked the first in Dr. Fazıl Küçük Essay Competition

    Near East College is the winner of the first prize awarded for Dr. Fazıl Küçük Inter-scholastic Essay Competition that organized in collaboration by the Ministry of National Education and Culture and Vodafone due to the death anniversary of Turkish Cypriot leader Dr. Fazıl Küçük.

    According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, the competition was organized to harvest the creativity and talent of students in writing composition. Near East College 9th grade student Meryem Şensoy Tavukçuoğlu’s composition on “Dr. Fazıl Küçük in the eyes of youth” won the first prize in the competition that themed on ‘Tomorrows belong to those who will have succeeded in building social justice, human rights and social-economic structure’.
    The students, who were selected as the winners of the competition, were presented plaques with an award ceremony that held at the Ministry of Education and Culture.

    Success Appreciated…
    Meryem Şensoy Tavukcuoglu, who won the first prize in the contest, read her essay at the commemoration ceremony held at Near East College for Dr. Fazıl Küçük death anniversary. Her essay was highly appreciated and applauded by school Director Işılay Arkan, administrators, teachers and students.

    Highlighting the crucial role of leaders in their societies, Near East College Director Işılay Arkan stated that leadership wasn’t something readymade but it came from their own actions. “Leaders are meant to be understood and followed. Our student Meryem Şensoy Tavukçuoğlu understood the Turkish Cypriot Leader Dr. Fazıl Küçük well and wrote an outstanding composition about him, I congratulate her for her success”.

    “Both Dr. Fazıl Küçük and Rauf Raif Denktaş are two important leaders for Turkish Cypriot Community. It is essential for Turkish Cypriots to understand them, to adopt their ideals, to adopt and maintain the matters that they approached with common sense” said he.

    Historical Awareness is Installed in Students…..
    Underlining that Near East College was a school committed to raising students equipped with comprehensive knowledge, historical awareness, the ability for critical and creative thinking as well as conducting research, Hakan Kaplan, Teacher of Turkish Language and Literature, stated that their student’s success was considered as the success of the school.
    “This success and other accomplishments that our students have achieved so far are the outcomes of a well-established infrastructure and the products of a great vision. Somewhere in their educational life, our students, who have been a member of Near East from the 6th grade or even from the primary school years, definitely receive the returns of the efforts exerted for them” said he.
