• A magnificent Cyprus tradition in the Near East College … Great interest in the theater play “Cyprus Henna”

    Near East College Turkish Language and Literature Department, High School Theater Club students, performed the “Cyprus Henna” theater play.

    According to the information given by the Near East University Press and Public Relations Directorate, the play, which attracted great interest and admiration from the audience, was performed in NEU Grand Library, Hall 4, reflected a well-known tradition of Cyprus and how organizing the old fashion weddings was hard, and dramatized the funny adventures of a young Turkish Cypriot named Mehmet who was in struggle of reaching to the girl with whom he falled in love.

    In the henna painting event which was an important part of the traditional Cypriot weedings, no details of the culture has been forgotten such as the criticism and arguments of the Cypriot people, the music of the Cypriot singers, and the sweets handed out at village weddings. The play, which was colored with folk dances, received a full note from school administrators, teachers, parents and students.

    School Manager Praised
    At the end of the play, the Headmaster of School, Mr. Işılay Arkan, thanked the students of the theater club and the folk dance team for their efforts and expressed his appreciation.
