Özge Afşaroğlu

I was born on 7th February, 1980 in Nicosia. After I graduated from Sht. Tuncer Primary School, I went to 20 Temmuz Science Lycee. I received my undergraduate degree in English Language Teaching from The Middle East Technical University ( ODTU) in Turkey. Since 2001 I have been an English teacher at the Near East College. I have been teaching different classes from year 8 to year 12.

When I was a child, I always wanted to be a teacher. Finally my dreams came true in 2001.

To be honest, being a teacher is not an easy job ( It’s a life-long learning process) as you should study  and improve yourself all the time like a student but I like teaching and being with my students.  I think it’s  exciting, enjoyable and REWARDING!!!  I get no greater thrill than seeing my students achieve.  We, as teachers, are like mothers and fathers of our students because we are together eight hours a day. We teach them, help them to learn new skills, listen to their problems,  and most importantly we try to teach them life skills. Being a teacher doesn’t  mean teaching the students lessons. It means to  teach them how to cope with difficult situations , think and criticize, learn to think positively, try and work hard to make their dreams come true, being an honest person and taking responsibilities and risk when it’s necessary.
