Ruşen Özanıl Yaratan

I was born in Sydney, Australia in 1984 and moved to Cyprus with my family at the age of 9. I started my primary school education in Australia and completed it here in Cyprus. At the time, adapting to the culture and the different education system were some of the difficulties  I had to face.

After finishing primary school, I attended the Near East College from 1996-2002. I had the chance to improve my language skills and take part in many social activities during my high-school education. At the end of six beautiful years and along with the continued support of my high-school teachers, I had made the decision to become an English teacher.

I carried on my education at the Near East University and graduated successfully in 2006 from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences with a BA degree in the English Language Teaching Department. Having completed my teaching practicum in my senior year, I was given the opportunity to teach at the Near East Pre-School which allowed me to embrace my dream of teaching young children. In the mean time, I was offered a job to teach at a private language center and gained some great experience while working with adult students.

I have been working as a full-time English teacher at the Near East College since 2006 and have taught various age groups over the past nine years. I am currently teaching the GCE classes and year 8 students. In 2009, I was honoured by becoming a certified Oral Examiner by the British Council. I have been examining students from all around Cyprus. Until today, I have attended several academic seminars and took part in many bicommunal activities held in our country. Working together with the teachers who once taught me as a student during my high-school years is an amazing experience and would love to carry on to be part of the Near East family. Besides teaching, I enjoy travelling and discovering new places, watching movies and spending time with my family and friends.

As a teacher  I can say that there is nothing more gratifying than witnessing a young child learn something new, knowing you have been a driving force behind that growth.
